Foliage

Opposite, simple 1.5 to 3.5 inches across, 3 lobes, base rounded, margins entire or irregularly serrate. Glossy green in summer with red to orange, possibly yellow, late fall color.

Buds

Buds are imbricately scaled, pointed rich brown buds. Terminals approximately .125 inches long.

Bark

Sinuous trunk is covered with an orange-brown, exfoliating bark.

Flower

Greenish yellow, borne in downy umbel-like corymbs with the leaves in March, April-May; scarcely noticeable.

Fruit

Samara, .75 to 1 inch long, wings parallel.

Propagation

Seed, cuttings; cultivars are normally grafted.
