Of hybrid origin: I. aquifolium x I. latifolia
Cultivars vary from 4 to 6 foot broad shrubs, 15 to 20 foot pyramidal small shrubs.
Sun, well-drained, moist soils. This group may be quite heat tolerant but has not been widely planted.
Specimens as small trees, screens and group plantings of the smaller cultivars.
Alternate, elliptic-oblong to ovate, margins spiny, 2 to 3.5 inches long. Dark green foliage that is lighter green beneath. Foliage closely resembles that of I. latifolia.
Buds are imbricate, .125 inches long, ovoid, acute at tip, glabrous, purple.
Silver gray.
Dioecious, small creamy white, fragrant.
Drupe, orange-red to red, .25 inches in diameter almost shrouding the stem behind the current seasons growth.

'Jade' - 4 to 6 foot broad shrub.
'Ruby' - similar to 'Jade'.
'San Jose' - a upright pyramidal plant to 15 feet or more.
'Wirt L. Winn' - upright pyramidal plant to 25 feet.
