Dyeing with Indigo & Other Natural Dyes 2019

August 14, 2018 at 5:00 am - 11:00 am

Dyeing with Indigo and Other Natural Dyes workshop

UDBG Friends Members: $85; Nonmembers: $95
Location: Fischer Greenhouse
Maximum: 15 participants

Before the advent of synthetic dyes, many native and exotic plants were used as a source of color for fabric. Join textile artist Jeanne Frett for this hands-on class as we gather and process leaves of Mexican marigold (yellow), Japanese indigo (blue), and cochineal (red). Participants will harvest the dye plants from the botanical garden and learn how to process them to extract dye for roving, yarn, or scarves. Mordanting arrangements will be made prior to class. Please wear old clothes, bring a notebook, and a bag lunch.

Registration and prepayment required for this event. Please email botanicgardens@udel.edu or phone 302-831-2531 to provide credit card info. Send check payment to: UDBG, 152 Townsend Hall, University of DE, Newark DE 19716.

Cancellation Policy: UDBG reserves the right to cancel any program if necessary. Refunds take approximately three to four weeks to process. There will be no refunds after a class or series begins. Payment will be refunded if cancellation is made 10 business days prior to class.
