Tiffany Bennett

Assistant Manager & Buyer, Gateway Garden Center, Hockessin DE

A plant lover, Tiffany Bennett’s interest in horticulture began with her family. Her mother is a UD alumnus with a degree in horticulture. Tiffany grew up on a beautifully landscaped property and remembers playing with grape hyacinths and snapdragons. Her grandmother was a passionate gardener and her grandfather, John Bennett, spent 30 years as a forester for the Blackbird State Forest. Like her mother, Tiffany graduated from UD with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture with a concentration in Landscape Design and a minor in women’s and gender studies.

During Tiffany’s undergraduate studies, she interned at UDBG the summers of 2009-2011. These experiences taught Tiffany her plants and she credits the staff at UD with teaching her various plants’ characteristics and nuances. Tiffany worked at a landscaping company directly after college before making her way to Gateway Garden Center, a family owned business, in Hockessin, DE. Her artistic flair and love of plants has served her well in her position as Assistant Manager & Buyer. Tiffany manages and buys for several departments and delegates projects to staff members in her role as assistant manager. In addition to these duties, she creates the layout and design of displays inside the actual store and assists in buying and maintaining the business’s houseplants. She enjoys looking at order lists for which new plants to bring in and creating beautiful displays.

Tiffany is most passionate about plants and she loves learning new plants! She has a particular fondness for ferns, orchids, and begonias. Houseplants have become her newest passion and are a way for her to discover new plants. Outside of the plant world, Tiffany competes and teaches in dog agility. She has been training and competing for 19 years. Tiffany has been teaching for five years and she hopes to take her future career in this direction.
