Bold, glossy, deeply cut leaves give this plant architectural presence even when it’s not flowering, famously inspiring the Corinthian column motif. Dramatic spikes of white, snapdragon-like flowers with purple hoods rise in late spring to mid-summer. Spreading by rhizomes, it’s best sited with room to roam or grown in containers, with winter mulch for protection.
