Discovered by Matt Welch in east Texas, ‘Welch’s Pink’ is a compact cultivar that thrives in a wide range of conditions, from dry to wet soils and sun to shade. Small summer flowers give way to clusters of showy pink berries in September, lasting into winter until birds enjoy them. Pruning in late winter encourages a bushier form and more berries, since it flowers on new growth. A great choice for attracting birds and pollinators, it works beautifully in native gardens, naturalized settings, or as a foundation plant. Our crop was propagated here at UDBG.
