Diospyros virginiana

$39.00

Common Name: Persimmon

Pot Size: 2 g

This beautiful, mid-sized native tree thrives along roadsides and in open woodlands. Its distinctive, blocky bark conceals rich ebony-colored wood, once prized for crafting golf clubs. In early summer, both male and female trees produce small white flowers, but only females develop the 1–2-inch, apricot-colored edible fruit—provided a male pollinator is nearby. The tree serves as a larval food source for luna moths and boasts striking purplish-red foliage in fall. To maintain a tidy appearance, promptly remove root suckers unless a naturalized effect is desired. All plants in this sale are female.

Note: These are female plants.
