This ephemeral native perennial emerges early in the spring before the majority of trees and shrubs leaf out. Each large, blue-green leaf has two deeply divided, symmetrical lobes. Leaves may be coarsely toothed or wavy along the edges of the leaf. Flower stalks emerge producing white, 8-petaled, star-like blossoms. Fruit is a pipe-like capsule that pops open when ripe.
