Gloxinia, Violets, and Boea, oh my! The Gesneriads are both graceful and whimsical, with a profusion of colorful flowers, fuzzy textures, and striking leaf patterns. It’s no wonder so many popular and beloved houseplants are members of this family. In this presentation, you’ll learn the basics of growing Gesneriads successfully and which ones are worthy of a place on your sill.

Primulina ‘Minnie Pearl’ a Barb Borleske Hybrid

Gesneriad enthusiasts and friends Mary Shaeffer and Barb Borleske will draw on their over 50 years of growing these special plants in this hour-long virtual presentation.

Barb Boleske is a longtime member of the Delaware African Violet and Gesneriad Society, National Capital Area Chapter of the Gesneriad Society, Liberty Bell Gesneriad Society, The International Gesneriad Society, Mid-Atlantic African Violet Society, and African Violet Society of America.

She grows and hybridizes hundreds of plants, attending regional and international conventions and shows as both an exhibitor and judge.

Aside from her passion for growing Gesneriads, Barb’s other hobbies include environmental activism, growing fruits and vegetables in a small suburban garden, following the many sports activities of her grandchildren, and reading.
