Native

UDBG delineates plants and their associated cultivars as native if they are endemic to the mid-Atlantic and southeastern temperate regions of the United States, including deciduous forest, Piedmont, and coastal plain ecosystems. This includes portions of states from New York down to coastal Georgia. We acknowledge that the definition of native plants for horticultural purposes is complex and evolving, and we remain engaged with other botanic gardens and institutions to determine how best to characterize these plants. Plants from our regional environments are not only beautiful but also provide a host of ecological benefits to the landscape.
