Join former UDBG Director Dr. John Frett as he leads us on a garden walk of his favorite plants in the UDBG collection. The garden was his outdoor laboratory for more than three decades, showcasing his insatiable passion for plants. Come see what he considers the UDBG’s greatest hits and why.

Dr. John Frett is the former Director the the UD Botanic Gardens and a retired faculty member of UD’s Department of Plant & Soil Sciences where he taught many plant and botany courses over the years, including Woody Landscape Plants and Indigenous Woody Flora of the Eastern U.S. As the Director of the botanic gardens, he developed an extensive collection of woody plants. While Dr. Frett never met a plant he didn’t like, he has a particular fondness for and specialty in magnolia, holly (Ilex), oak (Quercus), maple (Acer), viburnum and false indigo (Baptisia). He also taught continuing education classes at Longwood Gardens for 20+ years and lectures in the mid-Atlantic.
